Elizabeth Harvest (2018)

Beautiful facade of a modern thriller.

Presentation:

Sci-fi art house visually looks sexier than ever. If one were to ask why choose the Sony Venice over Arri, I might recommend this movie. The visuals are clean crisp, vibrant yet clinical in a beautiful way. There are a few scenes exemplifying the beauty of modern cinematography and itโ€™s overall a visual treat. Abbey Lee Kershaw is striking and mesmerizing on screen but a lack of charisma and direction from the story gate the film.

Conclusion:

Itโ€™s an interesting black-mirror-like premise, but ultimately there's little thought or foundation for this story. They've apparently put all their resources into the visuals and none for the content. There are a few nice turns and twists, but it doesn't satisfy what the visuals promise. An interesting concept, but ultimately meaningless noise putting up a facade of a story meant to make you feel there is more substance to this pseudo intellectual attention grabber. This film doesn't know what it wants say other than โ€œlook at me." It's beautiful but empty when you peel back the layers, unfortunate because the premise had so much potential. So much so, you should still give it a chance.
