Elizabeth Harvest (2018)
Beautiful facade of a modern thriller.
Presentation:
Sci-fi art house visually looks sexier than ever. If one were to ask why choose the Sony Venice over Arri, I might recommend this movie. The visuals are clean crisp, vibrant yet clinical in a beautiful way. There are a few scenes exemplifying the beauty of modern cinematography and it’s overall a visual treat. Abbey Lee Kershaw is striking and mesmerizing on screen but a lack of charisma and direction from the story gate the film.
Conclusion:
It’s an interesting black-mirror-like premise, but ultimately there's little thought or foundation for this story. They've apparently put all their resources into the visuals and none for the content. There are a few nice turns and twists, but it doesn't satisfy what the visuals promise. An interesting concept, but ultimately meaningless noise putting up a facade of a story meant to make you feel there is more substance to this pseudo intellectual attention grabber. This film doesn't know what it wants say other than “look at me." It's beautiful but empty when you peel back the layers, unfortunate because the premise had so much potential. So much so, you should still give it a chance.
