You Won't Be Alone (2022)
A sentimental love letter to humanity.
Presentation:
This French/Macedonian character piece uses beautiful cooke lenses with stunning natural lighting. It's extremely artistic and will take you through humanity and its relationships through innocent/uncontaminated eyes. The story is propelled through an interesting mechanism of supernatural elements which allow a narrative of this nature. There is little dialogue, mostly sensitive stream of consciousness. This encapsulates French romanticism utilizing dark elements offering stark contrast to raw beauty.
Conclusion:
The film is ultimately uplifting highlighting motherly love, gender roles, freedom, persecution, pain and darkness. It's truly touching as you can experience humanity in all its flaws and pureness through transient experiences of a shapeshifter. It's poignant, powerful and highly emotional. It's truly innocent accentuated by the grim mystical brutality. An existentially personal piece. The film is poetic and transient, successfully accomplishing what Terrance Malik strives to do in the search for truth about ourselves. It is highly introspective and observatory and could truly touch your soul if you have the patience. Daringly original, it may be too artsy for many.
