2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Exploring space and humanity.
Presentation:
Another masterpiece from Kubrick, illustrating why he is one of the greatest. Another psychological relationship with AI but this time with grander themes, questioning humanity among the infinity of the stars. Looks unbelievable for a film made in 1968, influencing every future space film to come. This is space. This is Kubrick.
Conclusion:
Kubrick is the goat, but well deserving especially considering how early they were made and how relevant they still are today. The pacing and execution are better than so many modern films today. 2001: A Space Odyssey is Kubrick's most ambitious work, and also far reaching, making this one of his most important films. It’s not as existential as it could be, but one can appreciate how much it leaves to the imagination.
