Love, depravity and humanity.
Presentation:
Emmanuel Lubezki's legendary handheld camera work combined with Alfonso Cuaron's chaotic vision of an infertile world give us a gritty dystopian twilight zone. Dark, moody and filmic visuals with some impressively immersive sets. Has some of the most cinematic scenes, especially in the first 2 minutes. Very immersive lensing as usual.
Conclusion:
When I think of modern dystopian, what is presented here is quite picturesque. This film almost serves as a thought experiment, “What if humanity became infertile?” Amidst the chaos and horrors of war, you have a triumphant scene that puts all priorities into perspective. But whether the immersive action scenes are enough to make the rest of the detached script feel like a nourishing piece of cinema will be up to your mood.
