Bacon gets burnt pretty quickly.
Presentation:
The Spanish mild horror is beautifully shot despite the changing lenses. I'm really a fan of the framing and blocking with this tall frame and the shift from spherical to cropped anamorphic to tilt shift blur is really interesting. The main lead successfully draws sympathy, but overacting ruins the experience. The script unfortunately ruins the characters.
Analysis:
The film is not scary at all and has a uniquely young obese lead. You really feel bad for her when she gets bullied, but overacting, cries and tears are really overdone. The film is over-dramaticized in many ways and the side characters are unrealistic and frustrating. The Bonnie and Clyde or Stockholm situation ends up being quite disappointing, as many elements of this film aren't flushed out. Perhaps they should have developed fat fetish more or the characters desire to be loved, which ultimately are rushed. There's something that should be said about a metaphor on lashing out against bullies, but the film doesn't do it any justice. The main character development is so inconsistent and pointless, which should be the heart of this film.
Conclusion:
This is a pretty bad film, with the only silver linings is that it looks good and the lead is special. The pacing is decent but ends up boring as events are questionably predictable. No one feels like a real person, they've trimmed the fat but the heart as well.
