Promising young feminists.
Presentation:
Emerald Fennel’s debut, which is commended by modern audiences for it’s colorful set design, though I think the imagery is overrated. This is a film for turn of the decade women, providing feminists with validation and karmic catharsis for trauma. I couldn’t take the plot seriously with all the patting on the back, but what do I know? This film was not made for my demographic. In some ways I think the writing is egregious especially with turn of the decade dialogue, but at the same time there’s a flicker of shallow magic. I liked Carey Mulligan, but she can do better than films like this.
