Paths of Glory (1957)

We can’t all be Leeroy Jenkins.

Summary:

Kubrick’s more serious anti-war film. Lots of dialogue in this film with the exception of notable tracking shots for its war scene. It was just okay for me cinematography-wise. There’s nothing wrong with this film at all nor was there anything particularly profound. We all know war is terrible and the promotional bureaucracy of ranks, but with mostly dialogue there’s nothing that should wow you in visuals or ideas. I’ve watched this film twice now and it’s got that old cinema style of over-explaining, declarative storytelling and front facing group dialogue. A fine film and one you would not regret watching, but it felt more of a play than a film.
