The Shape of Water (2017)
The best introduction into Guillermo del Toro's style.
Presentation:
A very novel premise with the main lead being mute, this allows the audience to want to speak for her. As a result, actions and gestures are more important leading to a whole different presentation of the script. As she listens, we as the audience listen an observe more. Strangely nostalgic of a secret laboratory in the 60s, has somewhat of a Bioshock vibe. Overall lovely retro-art deco style.
Conclusion:
The core of this film is so much more than just a government experiment, has the mystery, imagination, naivety, darkness and perversion you'll see from del Toro films, with a fascinating take on human relationships.
