Presentation:

If youโ€™ve watched The Hunt, the same director gives us a similar feeling drama. Handheld camera movement provides an organic realism that makes you more intimate with its characters. Mads Mikkelsen proves why he is the pride of Danish cinema with another magnetic performance. There is something about the way the director captures Danish life that feels raw and real, powerful yet never melodramatic. Being a dancer, Mikkelsen also shows a few dance moves, but itโ€™s not as incredible as you think itโ€™ll be.

Conclusion:

Does drinking solve everything? A film that youโ€™ll watch for the premise but stay for the life lessons. This is really a story about how to navigate life despite all the struggles. there is a flickering hopeful bittersweet feeling that truly touched me, though I think this is definitely targeted toward men. I found myself so connected to the protagonist, something the Mikkelsen is so adept at doing. Danish cinema knows how to get you in the feels, or maybe itโ€™s just Vinterberg.
