The circles of corrupt hypocrisy.
Summary:
Utilizing a unique circular format, the film illuminates the tightly controlled hypocrisies of China’s governance and society. Due to censorship, it’s quite rare to get a real glimpse of some of the ridiculous regulations, which inevitable lead to corruption within China. It's a wonder how this film was made as it is far too honest and explicitly critical of the Chinese Party. Fan Bing Bing doesn't offer anything special, but is a strong enough name to hold our attention and anchor us in revealing this daring foreign political statement. What’s most notable is the circle and square formats, which have a Wes Anderson style of planimetric composition. However, don’t go into this for the cinematography as there’s not much behind the vanity art format. I don’t think anyone outside of China will be able to appreciate this film and those that are within China will never have watched something as critical of the Party as this.
