If Romeo and Juliet were cannibals.
Presentation:
One of the few films shot on classic film, which I actually liked the image fidelity of. Nostalgic organic visuals in a suburban setting go perfectly hand in hand. Natural lighting adds a necessary realism and rawness. Timothee Chalemet and the protagonist create a compelling couple. Given the circumstances, you really feel as though it's these two characters against the world. The supernatural aspects create a bit of fun in the world building. Despite the macabre gruesome details, the story is actually quite romantic and succeeds in creating our investment in the characters. You want to see them make it through. You have one of the creepiest characters also brought to life and this really could be considered a horror film. Despite an awesome twist, the dialogue at the end is a bit inexplicable. Whether it is cringe or a work of art, the jury is still out.
Conclusion:
Great performances, two lovers against the world with intriguing world building. Whether you can stomach the twists is the least of your worries for this bloody film.
