The Prestige (2006)
How far would you go to create the greatest magic trick?
Presentation:
One of Nolans best early films with captivating performances with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. The setting and grade are wonderfully Nolan if he has a look, similar to Batman Begins in color palete and style actually. The premise alone makes this film impossible to ignore. Two stage magicians sacrificing everything to battle each other in creating the best illusion.
Conclusion:
It's at this point Nolan began to craft his specific voice, which I think can be summed up by quick wit, strong pacing and a focus on character arcs. Nolan understands that the core of compelling films require a conflict, tension, ambition and fierce dialogue. This film is fantastic and encapsulates what I think to be the core of every Nolan film. Fierce competition between magicians never felt so magnetic.
