Some Hollywood franchises need to die.
Presentation:
This film is actually quite cinematic looking with the teal blue green Joker color pop with anamorphic lenses. This makes it all the more impressive how bad the film is that I was unable to finish watching. Itās just extremely repetitive and redundant. This is the fourth movie in the A Quiet Place franchise. How many times do we have to watch someone get killed because they are desperately yelling, āWeāre all gonna die!ā? And seriously, how many idiots need to die for a cat in these movies? This film offers nothing new except for a diverse cast, which honestly seems like the only selling point for this shallow prequel that no one really asked for. Yeah there are more monsters, but it turns this into an action rather than the thrilling quiet sneaky stealth aspect that made the original film great. The apple has fallen very far from the tree.
Conclusion:
The dialogue is meant for Gen Z, which is once again indicative that Hollywood thinks its audiences are stupid. Even if this film is marketed toward teenagers, it goes beyond mindless. The script and events that take place in the first 30 minutes are so cliche and redundant that I couldnāt continue watching even though I liked the visuals. Excruciating and hair pulling, a clear example of a blockbuster money grab. This is such a shame because Lupita is such a talented actor and this film is beneath her. The redeeming quality is that the film does look good if you like modern color grading. Just watch the original A Quiet Place instead.
