Moneyball (2011)
Compelling even for those that don't care about baseball.
Presentation:
The film has pretty standard cinematography and focuses on the true story of how statistics were implemented in baseball drafting. It kinda has a similar vibe as Jerry McGuire with less of the heart and a more neutral grounded reality. Jonah Hill begins to demonstrate his range and Brad Pitt plays a very cool anchor to bring the story home. The screenplay is also written by Aaron Sorkin so you know it’s going to have great pacing.
Conclusion:
An underdog story with not too much flashiness, but could still be a homerun for those that care more about the behind the scenes of competitive sports. This is my favorite baseball film and perhaps favorite sports film, though it is more business oriented. I can’t imagine how great this film will be for people that actually love the sport.
