Presentation:
I’m going to be honest, I didn’t see this reveal coming. This is one of the juiciest popcorn murder trials that keeps you on the edge of your seat. When the jury gasps, we gasp with them. Based on an Agatha Christie novel, it’s naturally a compelling script though I think is somewhat dumbed down compared to Wilder’s usual intelligence. The beginning of the film isn’t particularly interesting nor comedic. Once they enter the courtroom, the legal thriller begins and never skips a beat. The performances are just okay, the real focus is the tantalizing plot.
Conclusion:
I think this is one of the most entertaining courtroom thrillers in cinema. Its drama is on par with A Few Good Men and similarly rewarding except through story rather than performances. This film seems like a response to Hitchcock or Lumet’s 12 Angry Men, though distinguishes itself by being more light hearted. The lack of seriousness makes it more fun and a perfect flick to spice up your night. Just remember to bring the popcorn!
