The Dark Knight (2008)
One of the most iconic crime films happens to be a man running around in a cape.
Presentation:
Legendary performance from Heath Ledger as the Joker, whom is so captivating that actors, audiences and films will perpetually be inspired by one of Nolan's most gripping scripts. I think he surpasses Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange, the inspiration for his character. An iconic opening sequence and script demonstrate that you don't need fascinating cinematography to make a great film, as the grade and visuals here are neutral. It feels very big, but I don’t think there’s any really special about the visuals, and I mean this is the most impressive way possible. Ledger's performance completely overshadows Bale's Batman, whom delivers the heart of this film. Unpredictable twists and turns make the first viewing of this epic spectacle a blockbuster experience of a lifetime.
Conclusion:
This is the best comic book hero movie of all time, while also being one of the most compelling scripts cinema too. It's a shame that Ledger left so soon, leaving a lackluster ending to the trilogy, but this film stands alone as one of the greatest sequels of all time to an already incredible Batman Begins. It has the framework of a popcorn superhero flick, but the engine of a deep psychological experiment. There are points in the film where characters present decisions to the audience that we ourselves will subconsciously make, like a trolley problem. I don’t think someone can ever get sick of watching this film.
You shouldn’t have any problems falling asleep.
