Ash Is Purest White (2018)

Super raw Chinese observatory piece from 2001-2017.

Summary:

Director Zhangke Jia once again captures the raw cold Chinese reality of a gangster couple coming to terms with brutal modernism after being arrested. It's beautifully shot and artistic as usual. Relationships are nuanced and the story has a no BS naturalistic approach. This is slow nostalgic cinema for those that love China and not for mass audiences.
