Show me the money!
Presentation:
I was struggling whether or not to add Jerry Maguire into the Hall of Spice because on its surface it is a Hollywood popcorn drama. I normally would like to keep Filmspice a refined cinematic list, otherwise Iโd be adding literally every movie Iโve watched. But I have decided that while Jerry Maguire is a formulaic film, it is not an average one. Tom Cruise and co. have incredible chemistry and quotable lines for a guaranteed good time. This is one of the most heartwarming films with smiles from ear to ear and a film doesnโt need to have intellectual cynical gravitas in order to be critically acclaimed.
Conclusion:
While the majority of films I promote tend to be deep, variety is still the spice of life. There are only a few uplifting nostalgic films that have stuck with me through all this time, and Jerry Maguire is probably the most memorable. Some films are just engraved into the cinematic subconscious and nearly everyone has remembered this film. If you havenโt watched it yet, you probably should. You can probably remake Rocky, or modernize Cast Away, but thereโs no replicating the magic or heart of Jerry Maguire.
