Every frame a painting.
Presentation:
Makoto Shinkai is known for his more modern visual style of anime emulating camera movement and bokeh blur. In terms of pure image quality, the artistic depiction might be one one of the best of all time. There’s something impressionistic yet realistic about the art style that makes each frame look absolutely stunning. This film has a more powerful drama than his other animes with a memorable ending. If only it was longer than 40 minutes.
Conclusion:
Rain and Japan have never looked more lush. There is a pretty unforgettable musical scene, but the rest of the film pales in comparison. As a result this film is even further reduced from the short 40 minute runtime. It’s a simple story about a teacher, a student and his passion for making shoes, but the fireworks fizzle out pretty quickly. In any case, if you want a treat for your eyes you won’t be disappointed.
