Inside Man (2006)

No flip phones for this bank heist.

Summary:

When I was a teenager, I thought this was one of the coolest movies ever on cable TV, though I only watched it in parts. Perhaps there is some merit to Spike Lee’s popcorn heist sensibilities, but this is a nostalgic bootleg era flick that didn’t age well. The humor feels inappropriately out of place and the heist is not as smart as it claims to be watching in 2026. But back during the dawn of flip phone VHS cinema, this was the bomb and made you feel like planning your own genius heist. This New York bank ends up being a playground of chest thumping bravado, but by the end of this movie, I was confused what Spike Lee was trying to say with the half executed social commentary.
