Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
Love and connection are the only drugs you need.
Presentation:
Sometimes opposites attract especially in this beautiful medical docudrama in Texas. Matthew McConaughey plays opposite of Jared Leto, whom I think gets too much shade because of his future Joker performance. But he has an admirable performance here as a cross-dresser that is in stark contrast to McConaugheyโs gruff character. This makes their partnership even more captivating and they successfully portray a genuine bond that we can emotionally connect with.
Conclusion:
This is a surprisingly good script with magnetic characters that you really want to root for despite all their flaws. Itโs really humanizing and might make you care about this issue more than youโd expect. Perhaps so much so you could feel a call to action. If you are in the mood to be thrust into an unfamiliar predicament but experience a moment of humanity, love and connection are drugs you canโt say no to.
