This is Wes Anderonâs greatest film before his scripts became globetrotting mood pieces. Taking inspiration from other suspense films, this masterpiece incorporates Andersonâs signature colorful production and monologues to spice up the classic inheritance formula. Itâs perhaps his second most fun film mixing childish and mature themes with the beautiful storybook-esque cinematography. From the snowy alps to the nostalgic concierge, this is perhaps the perfect setting for a Wes Anderson tale.
Conclusion:
The reason this film does so well is partly the setting. Everyone has fond memories of hotels and cruise ships, especially when itâs filled with as charming of a cast as this one.This is peak Anderson alongside Moonrise Kingdom. His earlier works also have great scripts, but this certainly has one of his most epic plots with a concrete screenplay. The most impressively vibrant of his filmography yet, you wonât want to check out of this one.
