Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
From comic book to live action.

It’s weird how a comic book that doesn’t take itself seriously happens to be the one that cinephiles will probably treat the most seriously. A comic book film ahead of its time, Michael Cera is perfectly cast as the awkward teenager to play Scott Pilgrim. The fun popcorn flick depicts all the stylistics of American comic books in a cartoonishly edited package. But it’s the execution that prevents this from being popcorn slop, with humor, VFX and performances bringing the original vision to life. I’d even go as far as to say this is one of the best live action adaptations for comic book source material there is. But you don’t need to worry about any of that because at its center is an unserious yet satisfying action comedy. Not another silly teenage movie, I can’t imagine anything stopping you from enjoying how awesome this is.
Conclusion:
You could argue this style is adjacent to Laz Buhrmann films, but even still there’s really not much zany humor like this. This film puts fun above everything else and does so unapologetically. It doesn't matter how this film ends, the journey is jammed packed with gleefully animated performances and scenes that you'll likely never see from films that take themselves seriously. A totally unique experience that can be summed up in two words: Joyously novel.
