Panic Room (2002)
2000s thrillers were something else.
Presentation:
Fincherโs omniscient and precise camera movement really starts to become polished for a very memorable thriller for its time. Kristen Stewart and Jodie Foster are great for their roles and itโs so interesting to see Stewart so young and even grow taller than Foster toward the end of the film. The premise is a recipe for success, two people trapped in their panic room. Itโs nearly impossible to not make a compelling film with this plot and the film, which Fincher accomplishes, right up until the ending. Reminiscent of Phone booth, which came out the same year.
Conclusion:
A tense stalemate, the film builds and builds for the entire movie keeping you on the edge of the seat up. However, the ending feels like a convenient and disappointing cop out, largely because the plots development is so strong. If only it could finish the same. Itโs not one of Fincherโs best films, but itโll still satisfy your thriller fix.
